How did it all start?

Back in 2004, in the kitchen of a rented Kyiv apartment, two young men had the idea to create their own band. Andriy Khlyvniuk, the lead singer of the band Boombox, and Andriy Samoilo, the guitarist of the band Tartak, were renting an apartment together. One evening, they were just sitting in the kitchen and, according to Samoilo, Khlyvnyuk was humming some "long and boring" song with his guitar, and the idea to create Boombox came from that. At that time, Andriy Khlyvnyuk had already won the Mandarin Paradise festival with the band Perlyny Sezonya and played in the band Grafit. But it was Boombox that fully revealed his talent and gave him great popularity and true fans.

The band's creative path

Already in 2005, the guys recorded their first album, Melomania, at their own expense at an independent studio. It took them three studio shifts to record 11 tracks, which is actually 19 hours of work. A very laconic music video was shot for the track “Супер-Пупер” which was included in the rotation of one of the few charts at the time, Territory A.

The next record was much more serious. In 2006, Boombox began working with Moonrecords and released the album “Family Business”, which quickly gained “Gold” status. More than 100 thousand copies were sold only in Ukraine.

Boombox's first real hit was the song “Вахтерам”, which was played in all parts of the country in 2007. The song got into the rotation of Russian radio stations. Later, the same thing happened with the song “Та4то”. In the same year, the guys released the single “Тримай” and the video for “Наодинці”, which became the soundtrack to the fantastic film “Відторгнення”, in which Sergei Babkin played the main role.

In 2010, Boombox released another album “Все включено”, which included old songs in rock and roll arrangements, as well as covers of Igor Talkov's “Летний дождь” and “Звезды не ездят в метро” by Mashina Vremeni (Time Machine). Only two new songs by Boombox appeared on the album.

In February 2011, the band toured the United States and Canada and played eight concerts in the New World. In November of that year, the guys presented their album “Середній вік”. The following year, the album was reissued on vinyl.  Boombox also took part in a tribute to the band Micah and Jumanji and performed the song  “Для тебя” for which a video was filmed. TNMK and Pianoboy also took part in the work on the composition.  The experience of working with Dmitry Shurov was so successful that in 2013 the bands visited the Czech Republic and Germany with joint concerts. And the joint composition “Этажи”, which was recorded in 2010, still remains one of the favorite hits of both musicians' fans. Boombox also played a duet with Okean Elzy. Together they performed the song “Це зі мною”.

The band's fifth studio album is “Термінал Б”, of its compositions: “Дитина”, “Шукай”, “Кохана” and others. In 2016, the band released the maxi-single “Люди” the song of the same name caused a real sensation and still remains one of the most popular tracks of the band, and in 2017 the band recorded another maxi-single “Голий Король” and it became a real discovery for all fans. The latest albums by Boombox are the CDs “Таємний код: Рубікон. Частина 1” and “Таємний код: Рубікон. Частина 2” which were released in 2019. They include songs that quickly became favorites: “Тримай мене (feat The Gitas)”, “Твій на 100%”, “Безодня(feat Тіна Кароль)”, “Твій номер”, “Плющ” and others.

In addition to their musical activities, the Boombox musicians are also very active in the community. In the summer of 2018, the band played a concert at the administrative border with Crimea, at the Kalanchak checkpoint. The band also joined the all-Ukrainian campaign "Thanks to You", the organizers of which suggest expressing gratitude to ATO veterans and their relatives by putting their palms to their hearts.

Present

The Boombox band actively supports Ukraine in its struggle for freedom. They give concerts in Ukrainian cities and abroad. The band donates part of the proceeds from their concerts to the needs of the Ukrainian military. Together with the legendary Pink Floyd, Andriy Khlyvnyuk recorded the song "Hey Hey Rise Up" based on the Ukrainian song of the Sich Riflemen "Ой у лузі червона калина".

16 concerts in 34 days, continuous work for victory, supporting Ukrainians with their art, everything Boombox does today is of great importance. The lead singer of the Boombox band, Andriy Khlyvnyuk, joined the Kyiv Territorial Defense after Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine began, became a member of the Sofia special forces, and is still defending Ukraine at the front line. Also in July 2022, the Andriy Khlyvnyuk Charitable Foundation was launched to provide the Ukrainian military with reconnaissance drones, vehicles, generators, uninterruptible power supply systems, and other necessary equipment.
